Forty-four young male athletes (of Shorinji Kempo, Swimming, Skiing, Triathlon, and middle and long distance run) performed an incremental load exercise test on a bicycle ergometer to measure VT and maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2max). In order to detect the VT objectively, the data during the transit phase with the onset of exercise and above the respiratory compensation of metabolic acidosis was analyzed. The segmented regression analysis was applied to Vo2-VE and Vo2-Vco2 relationships determining the VT. Moreover, the multiple regression analysis was applied to the Vo2 and VE / Vo2 relationships, and the model's order according to Akaike's information criterion (AIC) was selected. The lowest value of the fitting model was determinated as VT. The results of the mean values (S.D.) of VT of V02-VE, Vo2- VC02 and V02-VE /Vo2 relationships were 62.2 (土11.3), 54.4 (+10.0) and 55.0 (土9.8)% in terms of % of V02max, respectively. As a result of the Scheffe's multiple comparison test, VT determined by VOZ-VE was significantly higher than that by V02-VC 02, V o2-VE / V 02 (Pく0.01). Furthermore, there was no significant difference between the VT of V02-VC02 and V02-VE /Vo2.
